Visa TypesAttention: PLEASE BE INFORMED THAT UKRAINE INTRODUCED A VISA FREE REGIME FOR CITIZENS OF THE COUNTRIES OF EUROPEAN UNION, U.S.A., CANADA, JAPAN, SWITZERLAND, NORWAY, SAN MARINO, MONACO, ICELAND, VATICAN, ANDORRA, LIECHTENSTEIN AND REPUBLIC OF KOREA, WHO MAY STAY IN UKRAINE WITHOUT VISAS UP TO 90 DAYS. For citizens of the above mentioned countries who enter Ukraine with the purpose of employment, permanent residency, study and work at the diplomatic missions of the above mentioned countries in Ukraine or with any other purpose if they are going to stay in Ukraine for more than 90 days, visas are still required. No visas are required for citizens of the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (except Turkmenistan).
At present, the Ukrainian legislation
provides for both visa and visa-free entry
procedure for aliens (foreign citizens and non-citizens).
The rules of aliens entry to/exit from Ukraine are regulated
by Ukrainian Law On
Legal Status of Aliens, of February 4, 1994 and are subject
to the rules of aliens entry to Ukraine, their exit from
Ukraine and transit through its territory (under the Decree
by Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers of December 29, 1995).
According to the set rules, an alien has the right for entry
to/exit from Ukraine, for temporary stay in Ukraine and for
making the necessary preparations to obtain a permit for
permanent residence in Ukraine.
Non-residents who have permanent residence in Ukraine, go on foreign trips with a non-resident identification document allowing for foreign trips and with an exit visa. Depending on validity, there exist the following types of visas: short-term and long-term visas. By frequency of use the visas are divided into single, double and multiple. No group visas are provided in the USA. According to the request contained in the supporting document, a single or double entry business, private, tourist, and a transit visa or a multiple entry visa can be issued by the Consulate General of Ukraine in San Francisco. Visas of other types are issued on the request by the State authorities of foreign countries, international organizations, invitation cards issued by ministries, by other central executive power bodies, as well as invitation cards of the type established by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine from Ukrainian legal and natural persons. IMPORTANT: In case of need, a Consular Officer may request additional documents which would in a better way specify the aim of the alien's trip or invite a certain person for an additional interview. NOTE: Since only one type of visa is issued per entry, the primary purpose of entry should be stated in the Application form and the supporting document related to this purpose must be provided. The type of visa required depends on the purpose of the applicants' entry into Ukraine (a business, tourist, private, transit etc.). All applicants (Note: no invitation letters are necessary for citizens of US, Canada, Japan, Switzerland, Turkey, or citizens of the countries of the European Union for obtaining official, business, private, cultural and sporting visas) must additionally submit certain documents, or "supporting documents", to further explain the applicant's purpose of entry. The supporting documents are listed below under the appropriate visa type: A) Business Visa (except citizens of US, Canada, Japan, Switzerland, and Turkey, or citizens of the countries of the European Union): An original invitation from a legal entity duly registered in Ukraine, containing the official address and telephone number typed in its letterhead, and signed by an authorized officer of the entity other than the applicant. The invitation must bear the entity's seal and be accompanied, when applicable, by a clear copy of its valid Certificate of Registration in Ukraine. The invitation should detail the purpose and if necessary, the number of visits, exact travel dates, cities and/or towns to be visited, and provide basic passport data of the invitee. B) Visa for Religious Mission (for US citizens and other countries): For obtaining this type of visa, applicants must submit an original letter of invitation from a Ukrainian religious organization. The letter of invitation must be accompanied by the original written confirmation under the signature and seal from the Department on Religious Matters of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine . C) Visa for Humanitarian Mission (for US citizens and other countries): For individuals providing humanitarian aid, a visa is issued on the basis of a letter of support from the Committee on Humanitarian Aid of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. If an applicant provides the Consular Office with the original letter from the Committee on Humanitarian Aid of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, then the visa will be issued free of charge (application and visa fee are waived.) D) Tourist Visa (for US citizens and other countries): One of the following documents proving the tourist nature of the trip is necessary to qualify for a tourist visa:
Note: The Consular Office has full authority to evaluate and request more documents than were submitted by the applicant. F) Immigration Visa (for US citizens only):
A valid visa to the country of destination, other documents which confirm entry into that country, or a confirmed one way or round trip ticket for travel from the point of entry into Ukraine to the point of entry into the next country from Ukraine are acceptable supporting documents for transit visas. This visa does not authorize an applicant's stay in Ukraine and is not required for a non-stop flight over Ukraine.
